AI (Artificial Intelligence), Real Scam

Familiar with ChatGPT, the AI assistant known for generating lifelike conversations? It was created by OpenAI. This week's scam involves cybercriminals sending phishing emails that seem to be from OpenAI. These fraudulent emails threaten that you’ll lose access to ChatGPT unless you update your payment information and pay a subscription fee.

These emails look genuine, complete with the OpenAI logo and what appears to be an official support email address. However, like many phishing attempts, they contain a link to a fake webpage that asks for your personal data and credit card details. If you click the link and enter your information, you won’t renew your ChatGPT subscription—instead, cybercriminals will steal your personal information and money.

Here are some tips to avoid falling victim to phishing scams:
- Examine emails for red flags. If you’re unsure, always check the official website to confirm the legitimacy of the email.
- Hover your mouse over email links to reveal their true destination. Look out for spelling mistakes, unusual domains, or suspiciously long URLs.
- Follow your organization’s procedure for reporting suspicious or unexpected emails.

Stay vigilant, and protect yourself from scams!
