Wednesday, April 19, 2023 / Categories: Scam Watch AI Phishbait AI (artificial intelligence) has and will continue to become increasingly prevalent in our everyday lives. People have begun exploring and using popular AI chatbots like ChatGPT or Google Bard. Cybercriminals are, unfortunately, twisting and using the AI’s growing popularity to steal personal information. In an example of a recent scam, cybercriminals created fake ads hosted on Facebook for free downloads of AI products. Once clicked, you’ll be asked to download a fake file. This fake file, containing malware, will be activated on your device once downloaded. The bad actors can then use the malware to steal personal, sensitive information from you, such as credit card numbers and passwords. Tips to stay safe: As always, think before you click. Cybercriminals can buy ads anywhere. Only download files from sources that you trust, such as the official Google or AI website. Before clicking, hover your mouse over the ad or link, and it will reveal the destination URL which will allow you to see whether or not the link leads to a safe legitimate website.
